My parents hate cooking. As a child my dinners came straight from the oven – turkey dinosaurs and potato waffles galore. When they came home from a long day at work, the last thing they wanted to do was toil away in the kitchen, and I was fine with that.
Growing up with the internet, as I did, it’s of no surprise to me that traditional methods of marketing are failing to grab the attention of millennials and Generation Z. Many have wised up to the artifice and pretence of the advertisements that would’ve persuaded their parents and grandparents.
Hollywood’s perception of age has always been skewed. Actors over 60 are almost non-existent and teenagers are played by people who probably have a mortgage. This has inevitably affected our self-perception, and some young adults, fresh out of their adolescent years, feel they must fulfil their life dreams before they reach the ‘dreaded’ age of 30.
The traditional model of film distribution is slowly dying, and COVID-19 may be the final death knell for the industry. With many theatres closed for the foreseeable, distribution companies have been forced to find other platforms to compete with Netflix, Disney and Amazon Studios.
